Two-piece fish-hook
Replica of a bone two-piece fish-hook from Moa Bone Point Cave.
Redcliffs is one of the most important areas in Canterbury for Maori archaeology, boasting a complex of extensive and rich archaeological sites.
The replica artefact shown here is based roughly on a fishhook point excavated in Redcliffs that I made as an experiment to see what it is like to work bone (spoiler alert: it stinks).
I learnt a bit about the techniques and limitations of the material involved in what would have been a common task for Maori.
