Marmite

Make mine Marmite!

Marmite Jars, Christchurch, 20th century.

These marmite jars were found at the back of the Sanitarium Health Food Company marmite factory, Papanui, Christchurch. The jars are made of milk glass and were produced by Australian Glass Manufacturers during the early 20th century.

Sanitarium has been producing Marmite in New Zealand since 1910. Over the years the black gold has been a staple for many New Zealanders, whether it be on in sandwiches, in stews or on toast.

“Give the children Marmite. As a drink. Spread on bread. In Stews, soups, gravies.

Give them Marmite with every meal. Watch them grow stronger. Sturdier.

Healthier. Happier.”
